Why Stainless Steel from ASCO

Stainless steel is chosen for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and wear. At ASCO, we stock and process 304 and 316 stainless sheets and plates in multiple finishes—ready for fabrication or installation. These alloys are precision rolled to ASTM A240 standards, ensuring consistency in gauge, flatness, and surface quality.

304 Stainless Steel Overview

The Workhorse of Stainless Steel

Type 304 is the most versatile and widely used stainless alloy. Containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel, it offers outstanding corrosion resistance and excellent formability. 304 stainless is ideal for general-purpose applications and can be welded and fabricated easily without losing strength.

304 Stainless Available Finishes

ASCO carries 2B Mill, #4 Brushed, and #8 Polished Mirror finishes in a range of gauges and sheet sizes.

2B Mill Finish — Smooth Utility

Cold-rolled and annealed for a bright, smooth, slightly reflective finish. This is the standard commercial finish for most industrial applications and acts as an excellent base for polishing or painting.

#4 Brushed Finish — Architectural Standard

The #4 brushed finish, sometimes called “satin finish,” features fine parallel polishing lines that diffuse light for a refined, linear appearance. It’s the go-to choice for architectural and design applications requiring both durability and visual appeal.

#8 Polished Mirror Finish — Reflective Excellence

The #8 finish is a super-polished, mirror-like surface achieved through multiple stages of mechanical buffing and polishing. The result is a high-luster, near-flawless finish that reflects surroundings with precision.

316 Stainless Steel — Marine & Industrial Grade

Superior Corrosion Resistance in Harsh Environments

Type 316 stainless includes 2–3% molybdenum, providing enhanced resistance to chlorides, saltwater, and chemical corrosion. It’s the top choice for marine, coastal, and chemical processing applications.
