Why Steel

Steel remains the most trusted industrial metal for strength, versatility, and long-term value. Its durability under load, ease of fabrication, and compatibility with coatings make it the preferred choice for countless applications.

Advantages of Steel Sheet & Plate

Common Applications

Types of Steel Sheet Available

Cold Rolled Steel (CRS)

Tight dimensional tolerances and a smooth, bright surface finish make CRS ideal for precision work.

Used in applications requiring close fit, tight bends, or post-paint finishing.

Hot Rolled Steel (HRS)

The industry standard for general fabrication. HRS provides strength, economy, and ease of welding or machining.

Surface oxidation (“mill scale”) is typical and can be easily cleaned prior to painting.

Painted Steel

Pre-finished with durable Kynar® or SMP coatings for exterior-grade performance. Available in more than 30 colors, including metallic and matte finishes, ideal for architectural applications.

Galvanized Steel

Coated in a layer of zinc for added corrosion protection. The zinc barrier prevents oxidation and extends service life in high-moisture or exposed environments.

Embossed Steel

Patterned for rigidity and appearance. Popular in design and industrial applications requiring texture and strength without added weight.

Expanded Steel

Slit and stretched into open mesh for ventilation, grip, and structural reinforcement. Offered in both raised and flattened styles.

Selecting the Right Steel for Your Project

Each type of steel offers a different balance of cost, strength, and surface quality. Use this guide to select the right product.

Application Recommended Alloy Finish
Structural Fabrication HRS Mill or Galvanized
Precision Formed Components CRS Painted or Powder Coated
Exterior Architectural Panels Galvanized or Painted Kynar® / SMP
Equipment / Machinery HRS Mill Finish
Decorative or Textured Surfaces Embossed Painted
Safety / Utility Platforms Expanded Galvanized
